Healing Center Feature: Vital Reset in Hood River

When you walk into Vital Reset, tucked away on a quiet road just a half mile from downtown Hood River, you’ll be greeted by a chorus line of plants—jade, monsteras and peace lilies—that seem to summon you through the hallway into the common area.

Here, the space instantly comes alive; exposed concrete bricks are painted a matte black that drifts—with the help of subtle psychedelic lighting—into the white built-in shelves that hold an array of sound bowls and portable cushions. A wooden vanity sits in the center of the common area, which can be used as a shrine of sorts for an opening ritual, but makes no specific religious claim, as you crane your head south to survey the open kitchen where the mushrooms are brewed into tea for upcoming journeys.

Turning around, you realize you’ve failed to notice the actual journey rooms—3 distinct branches of the common area, each spacious and deliberately curated to encourage both discovery and relaxation. In each, you’ll find a cozy bed, wicker baskets of extra blankets that flank thoughtfully incorporated bluetooth speakers where muted lamps—moored to nightstands—illuminate tapestries and artwork on the walls.

The People: Heidi, John and Jim

You’ve probably already met Jim, the Vital Reset service center representative. Not only does he manage all the inquiries at the center, but he’ll bring you the final few pages of paperwork and prepare your mushrooms too. Jim’s presence is radiant and inviting. Though the vibe is already close to immaculate, Jim seems to add an extra level of sacred to the mix.

If you’re lucky, you’ll meet Heidi and John, the owners of the center and psychedelic pioneers in their own right. From speaking at Harvard about Vital Reset and the legal and regulatory framework in Oregon to facilitating journeys for her own clients, Heidi is a true evangelist for natural medicine, and her energy and spirit—like a bit of burnt sage after a journey—seems to emanate from the walls.

The Best Part: Location, Location, Location

Aside from the ambience, you may already know the best thing about Vital Reset; it’s located in the small city of Hood River in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Walking the historic downtown, you can bob in and out of coffee shops, bookstores and breweries, while—just a stone’s throw away—the Columbia River majestically pulses through the gorge. It’s a great basecamp to both prepare for and to integrate your journey.

Speaking of integration, time in nature can be a lovely amplifier after a transformative experience, and Hood River is surrounded by so many natural wonders, I can’t be bothered to list them all—think alpine lakes, thundering waterfalls, riverside outlooks and old-growth forests just 20 minutes down the road in any direction.

Aside from its stunning location, Vital Reset is a true mom and pop operation; with only 3 administration rooms, you’ll get all the attention you deserve and never ever ever feel like just a lonely number.

A Personal Note from Arlo

Vital Reset is one of my favorite places to facilitate. The collective energy in the center really does create a calming and nourishing atmosphere, and many of my clients have commented on the inviting aura of the space.

Keep in mind, vibes are important in this work. You’ll likely arrive at the center a little nervous about your journey—the fact that you’re surrounded with good people and good energy is a lovely way to banish those psychedelic iron butterflies.
